Big-name band backs out of Austin City Limits Music Festival 2019
A back issue is forcing The Kooks to drop out of the Austin City Limits Music Fest 2019 lineup. On September 18, the British band took to social media to share the news.
In a video announcement, Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard said he suffered a back injury that is forcing him into physical therapy. "I have a perforated disk in my spine. And I'm really struggling to walk," Pritchard said in the video.
"My doctors have told me that if I try to do shows and traveling, I could potentially do some really bad long-term damage," he added. In addition to U.S. dates, The Kooks will also be postponing gigs in Mexico while Pritchard recovers.
The Kooks were slated to play at 2 pm on Saturday, October 5, on weekend one of the festival.
ACL Fest also took to social media to confirm the news and wish Pritchard well, but did not confirm if another artist will be added in the band's slot. A request for comment was not immediately available, and it's worth noting that The Kooks were only slated to play the festival's first weekend.
ACL Music Fest returns to Zilker Park October 4-6 and October 11-13 with a lineup that includes Cardi B, Guns N’ Roses, Mumford & Sons, Childish Gambino, Robyn, and Lizzo. Passes, badges, and VIP packages for the festival are currently on sale beginning at $260-$500 for three-day general admission and GA-plus, $1,200 for three-day VIP, and $3,600 for three-day Platinum. Single-day tickets are also available beginning at $105.
