Austin nails down ‘attainable’ housing development with $100K homes
Austin's housing prices continue to soar, with the median price of a single-family home in the metro area now exceeding $300,000 and the average rent for an apartment sitting at nearly $1,300.
We’ve got good news on the affordability front, though. A project designed to combat Austin’s ever-growing housing costs is coming to an area near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
A planned 198-acre expansion at Oak Ranch in Del Valle, at Pearce Lane and State Highway 130, promises 550 lots for manufactured homes and 260 lots for single-family homes. The developer, Scottsdale, Arizona-based Roberts Communities, says it’ll break ground in early 2019. The first phase includes 210 lots for manufactured (or prefabricated) homes while construction on single-family homes is planned for 2020.
Scott Roberts, owner of Roberts Communities, says the 810 new home lots are aimed at tackling Austin’s housing affordability crunch by “offering high-quality homes, amenities, and a luxury lifestyle at an attainable price for the average family of four.”
Manufactured homes will be priced at $60,000 to $100,000. In addition, each owner must lease a manufactured home lot from Roberts Communities.
Pricing for single-family homes hasn’t been determined, but the cost will include the home and land. “While pricing information has not been released, Roberts Communities is committed to offering an affordable option for Austin homebuyers,” the company says.
Currently, Oak Ranch contains 491 lots for manufactured homes. Its expansion will include a 10,000-square-foot community center featuring a gym, cafe, event lawn, pool, splash pad, soccer fields, and basketball courts. Also on tap is a 12-acre park that’ll be connected by a trail to nearby Barkley Meadows Park.
