Texas city deemed next big travel destination — and this time it's not Austin
For its esteemed list of the “Best Places to Travel in 2016,” Travel + Leisure tapped into Texas, but the Capital City isn't what caught the publication's eye. With a hot new hotel nestled in the Pearl and some of Texas’ best tacos in its backyard, San Antonio joins the exclusive club.
The annual list is compiled by T+L’s A-list experts, who know everything and anything about travel. According to the article, many factors were taken into consideration when determining 2016’s top destinations, which range from classic vacation spots to under-the-radar gems to destinations that are now easier to get to.
The carefully curated list for the upcoming year includes both exotic and European hot spots — Ghent, Belgium; Tanzania; and Kochi, India — and more destinations close to home, including Detroit; Richmond, Virginia; and fair San Antonio.
Out of 50 global destinations selected, San Antonio is the only Texas city on Travel + Leisure's list. The magazine touts the sexy new renovations to the St. Anthony Hotel, the River Walk, and the new Hotel Emma with all of its culinary additions.
Travel + Leisure goes so far as to say, “San Antonio, you're becoming cool.” But who’s kidding who? The Alamo City has been pretty cool for a while now.
