Halfling Housing
Elijah Wood now calls Austin home, moves from Bag End to Bouldin Creek
For one Hollywood actor, music producer and former Ring-bearer, the quest to find a more permanent residence in a city that he already adores has come to an end.
Actor Elijah Wood, who you may remember from such films as Radio Flyer, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the FX series Wilfred, recently purchased a rather dashing Victorian mansion within Austin's city limits. The home’s $1 million price tag is fitting for someone who starred in one of the largest film franchises of all time, but its location shows this celebrity’s penchant for being close to all things hip and trendy.
The South Austin locale offers proximity to the center of Austin, which is perfect for a Hollywood big shot who doesn’t mind mingling with the rest of us plebs.
Instead of a sprawling mansion way out west or next door to wherever Lance Armstrong has decided to live this month, Wood chose the hip Bouldin Creek Neighborhood, so he won’t be too far from good coffee shops and food trailers. The South Austin locale offers proximity to the center of Austin, which is perfect for a Hollywood big shot who doesn’t mind mingling with the rest of us plebs.
Wood actually bought the 3,285-square-foot house back in December, but his name was only recently revealed as the purchaser of the property. It seems like a logical step for a celebrity who has often been spotted at various events and spots around town, from Franklin to the Highball.
The house and location will offer quite a different lifestyle for someone who formerly lived in a Santa Monica mansion. Wood's new residence was built back in 1890 and features possibly the best two porches in town for lounging in rocking chairs while sipping iced tea during the stifling Austin summers. The surrounding neighborhood is also densely packed with plenty of trees, offering a more sylvan environment to enjoy.
Of course Wood's relocation means more chances for you to shout out Hobbit-themed references and puns that he’s likely heard a thousand times already. If you don’t pester him with endless fan questions, perhaps he’ll invite you over for second breakfast and maybe even elevenses.
With the move to Austin, we'll see if the star partakes in locally-based projects — Austin does offer plenty of opportunities for an avid record collector, DJ and record label founder like Wood.
