Each year the Austin Civic Orchestra travels north to Georgetown to perform in Southwestern University’s Alma Thomas Theater. Each selection on this year’s Black Voices Concert was either composed by or will be performed by a Black musician.

Dr. J. Michael Cooper will discuss his research on Margaret Bonds in a pre-concert talk. The Pearl Amster Percussion Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jordan Walsh, will begin the concert with a selection by Ayanna Woods. Next, the strings will perform Florence Price’s Andante Moderato, followed by the orchestra performing a movement of the Lalo Cello Concerto with Prudence McDaniel. The concert ends with Credo by Margaret Bonds with the Southwestern University Chorale.
