SOCIAL! Dance Club is an interactive music and dance experience created by Broadway choreographer Steven Hoggett, director Christine Jones, and musician, composer, and producer David Byrne.
100 people at a time will step on to the Bass Concert Hall stage to dance in their own spotlight to a specially curated playlist while listening to the wonderfully idiosyncratic instructional voice of David Byrne.
Over an easy-to-dance-to mix that jumps from Daft Punk to James Brown to Talking Heads, Byrne’s voice offers a steady stream of verbal cues: Move like you’re on a New York City sidewalk (“don’t step on that pizza”); now like a zombie; now slow it down, hands in the air. Moving free-form or in sync with the spoken choreography, audience members take part in a communal moment of pure, cathartic dance-floor release. No dance experience required.
This is a non-seated, interactive environment set up on the Bass Concert Hall stage. Audience members are free to move around the space.
