Austin is the 7th biggest boomtown in America, according to new study
Austin is already set to hit a major population milestone in five years, and could be on track to become the third biggest metro by the start of the next century. Now, a new study has named the Texas capital the No. 7 fastest-growing city in the nation in 2023.
Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown received a 61 as their "Boomtown Score" in the study by employee background check company Checkr. The score was determined by 10 factors, including the growth rates for the population, workforce, housing, and GDP; and the rates of unemployment and poverty.
"In recent years, the United States has experienced a significant degree of economic uncertainty, with far-reaching implications for businesses, consumers, and the cities they call home," the report says. "Boomtowns typically attract large numbers of people seeking employment and entrepreneurial prospects, leading to a rapid expansion of infrastructure, housing, and services to accommodate the growing population."
Surprisingly, Austin was the only Texas city to make it into the ranking. Utah cities dominated the top 10 with Provo taking the top spot and two Idaho cities completing the top three.
America's top 10 biggest boomtowns in 2023 are:
- No. 1 – Provo, Utah
- No. 2 – Boise, Idaho
- No. 3 – Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
- No. 4 – Bend, Oregon
- No. 5 – St. George, Utah
- No. 6 – Destin, Florida
- No. 7 – Austin, Texas
- No. 8 – Logan, Utah
- No. 9 – Ogden, Utah
- No. 10 – Reno, Nevada
