The “face” of KVUE-TV’s (ABC) “Daybreak” and midday news for some 14-years is about to change. Anchor Melissa Gale today emailed the morning crew that she is leaving.
“I announced today at the station that after many great years at KVUE, reporting to the wonderful people of Austin on things that I hope have been very important to them, I’ve decided to take some much needed time off, and explore some other opportunities,” Gale said on her Facebook page. The message was also added to her page on kvue.com.
On that same page, Gale comments that the demands of a morning show can take a toll. “While it's a tough schedule, I simply love the viewers we have!”
Gale’s Facebook fans reacted with surprise and support:
“You will be greatly missed! You are such a joy to watch!”
“Melissa we will miss you. You’re my fave on the local news here. You will be missed. Good luck to you on your new endeavors!!”
“What? Say it isn't so. It sounds like you've given this lots of thought and it's always best to do what's right for yourself and your family.”
Gale has seen several co-anchors come and go over the years. Daybreak has been #1 for much of that time although it’s been a neck-and-neck race with KXAN-TV (NBC) for the past year. This is Gale’s 20th year in TV news, according to kvue.com.
Her last day on the air will be sometime in mid-June according to Frank Volpicella, KVUE news director.
Gale and her husband Clint have been married for 15 years. She has a 23-year-old step-son and an eight-year-old daughter.
