The sweet spot
New Austin-area neighborhood sets foundation for first-time buyers with homes priced in $200s
A homebuilder is gearing up to add 324 single-family homes in southeast Travis County geared toward young professionals. The builder, Trendmaker Homes, says it’s targeting prices that start in the low $200,000s.
Trendmaker Homes, part of TRI Pointe Group, recently bought a chunk of land for the new neighborhood. The subdivision will be near I-35 and State Highway 45 in Turner's Crossing, a 468-acre master-planned community. Other homebuilders there include Meritage Homes and Taylor Morrison.
The company, which also builds homes in the Dallas and Houston areas, says the 40- to 50-foot home lots are designed to cater to young professionals, young families, and first-time homebuyers. Construction is supposed to start in late 2019; the grand opening tentatively is set for June 2021.
Many of Trendmaker’s homes will be substantially less expensive than the typical home in the Austin metro area. In July 2019, the median price for a single-family home in the region rose by 3.2 percent to $325,000, compared with July 2018, according to the Austin Board of Realtors.
“We are excited to be able to deliver quality, well-located product in that single-family sweet spot,” Terry Shuffler, vice president and general manager of Trendmaker Homes in Austin, says in a release.
Trendmaker boasts that the subdivision will be 11 miles south of downtown Austin and be near the Southpark Meadows shopping center. The development sits within the Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD).
Turner’s Crossing ultimately will feature more than 1,300 homes, as well as commercial space, apartments, and a future Hays CISD school.
