Who turned out the lights? Sundance Film Festival closing night party blows afuse
PARK CITY, Utah —The Basin Recreation Fieldhouse in this ski-turned-film mecca was transformed on Saturday night from an indoor soccer facility to a fabulous party venue for the Sundance Film Festival's 2012 Awards and Closing Night Party.
Thousands of independent film makers, producers, and all-around enthusiasts, including myself, filled up the space. Long entrance lines came as no surprise; and why wouldn't they be for such a hot ticket?
The organizers matter-of-factly planned ahead for what was a typical winter with a heated tent and strategically-placed speakers, accommodating guests with grace paired with a sampling of the amazing music yet to come.
Once inside, the truly unbelievable music mixes (or Glee-style mashups) from DJ Spider, a hot disc jockey out of Los Angeles, held court. Never thought you could blend Belinda Carlisle with Prince; needless to say . . . he did.
The room was pulsating with sounds from the speakers but also from the phenomenal movement of dancers on the floor.
The electric system overloaded with a dynamic audiovisual production blew. The party unfortunately ended early and left all of us already wishing it was next year.
