El Chile Group is adding another restaurant concept to its impressive list of offerings. Alcomar, a "Latin coastal kitchen" is poised to take over El Chile's location at 1816 S. First St. It joins sister restaurants El Alma, El Chile, El Chilito and El Sapo under the umbrella of the El Chile Group.

The restaurant will be led by co-executive chefs Alma Alcocer of El Alma and Jeff Martinez of El Chile. (Word enthusiasts may have already noticed that "Alcomar" is an amalgamation of Alcocer and Martinez's last names.)

“We want to bring our years of culinary experience and constantly evolving palates to this neighborhood that we’ve had such great success in,” Alcocer said in a press release. The chefs say they plan on drawing culinary inspiration from Latin American seaside towns, but with Austin-sourced ingredients.

Owner Carlos Rivera said he has long dreamed of opening a Latin-inspired seafood kitchen and says a recent trip to South America finally inspired him to turn his dream into a reality. Expect interiors that are contemporary in style, but evoke a "rustic beach house" feeling. “[The current] building has great bones and we want to create something beautiful that transports you to a small coastal town in Latin America,” said Rivero.

El Chile will remain open until Alcomar launches. Chefs Alcocer and Martinez will collaborate on weekly specials at El Chile that will serve as a test dishes for the new restaurant. Alcomar is slated to open in early 2015.
