Down By The River
Float your way through Labor Day weekend at this new local music fest
Float your way through Labor Day weekend at a new music festival on the banks of the San Marcos River. At Float Fest, concert-goers can forgo the typical music festival setup in favor of an inner tube, a swimsuit and a leisurely float down the river.
The one-day festival, taking place at Cool River Ranch on Sunday, August 31, will feature local darlings Wild Child and Whiskey Shivers, as well as an impressive selection of headliners like Grouplove, Bun B, STRFKR and Portugal. The Man. The doors open at 11 am and the event runs until 11 pm.
Ticketing options run the gamut from a one-day general admission pass to a two-night camping experience. General admission tickets start at $30 and include access to Cool River Ranch for the day. Tubing packages are $45, camping packages range from $60-$85, and VIP packages are $100.
Now onto the all-important river floating question. What about coolers and beer? While small, soft-sided coolers will be allowed on the grounds of Cool River Ranch (along with umbrellas, blankets, chairs and other go-to festival gear), alcohol will not. Float Fest will have alcohol for sale on the premises, along with food from local vendors including Black's Barbecue, Wahoo's and Amy's Ice Cream. Patrons can bring their own beer for the river floating portion of the event.
