BeeSweet Lemonade
10-year-old Austin entrepreneur gets special invite to White House
One young Austinite just attended the event of a lifetime. Ten-year-old Mikaila Ulmer, founder and creator of Austin-based BeeSweet Lemonade, was a guest at the 2015 Kids' State Dinner at the White House on Friday.
First Lady Michelle Obama invited Ulmer to the annual luncheon that honors children promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles.
Inspired by the plight of honeybees, Ulmer started BeeSweet Lemonade in 2009 with the help of her family. She uses her Great Granny Helen's decades-old flaxseed lemonade recipe to make the popular drink, which doubles as an awareness campaign. Each glass of lemonade uses local honey, and a portion of the proceeds benefit various organizations that are working to save bees.
The Austin-based company has experienced much growth and success in its short history. Ulmer, who regularly speaks at workshops and panels about entrepreneurship, has had her time in the national spotlight, too.
Earlier this year, she appeared as a contestant on Shark Tank and hooked a $60,000 deal and East Coast distribution from Daymond John. In April, the 10-year-old nabbed additional funding from Whole Foods Market, already a retail partner of her brand.
You can pick up a bottle of BeeSweet Lemonade at Whole Foods Market or these stores around Austin.
