What: Texas Monthly SPACES launch party
Where: Shelia Youngblood's Old West Austin home aka "The Most Colorful House in Texas."
The lowdown: Texas Monthly celebrated the launch of its brand-new special issue, SPACES, a collection of the state's most inspiring homes, during a stylish soiree on September 28. Lauren Smith Ford, Texas Monthly's style and design editor, and Shelia Youngblood, owner of Round Top's famed Rancho Pillow, co-hosted the eclectic affair at Youngblood's Old West Austin home.
Austin's most celebrated photographers and writers mingled with the city's best designers and architects while sipping Dandy Rosé, Desert Door cocktails, and Rambler Sparkling Water. Dai Due chef Gabe Erales crafted bites especially for the occasion while Dan Dyer, Evan Voyles, and Jesse Ebaugh provided the tunes.
Hosting it at Youngblood's abode was akin to coming home for Smith Ford. (Pun very much intended.) "I became the Style Editor three years ago and writing about Sheila’s house was the first piece I did in the new role," she says. "It set the bar high for the kind of spaces and homeowners I wanted to write about — bold, storied, and unexpected."
Indeed, the 17 homes in the first-ever SPACES issue are bold and unexpected, ranging from South Texas' opulent King Ranch Main House to a majestic Marfa estate.
