Lose 100 pounds
Biggest loser? ATX100: Taking off 100 pounds, the healthy way
"ATX100", it sounds like a new high tech gadget which it kind of is, and it is about to launch 100 Austin folks into an amazing journey.
ATX stands for Austin RunTex, 100 stands for 100 pounds. RunTex is the brains and the push behind getting 100 people who all want to drop 100 pounds each.
Paul Carrozza, RunTex owner and running shoe guru, organizer of 100’s of races, charitable giver and just an-all-round good guy, is putting this project together.
You may remember back 5 years ago, Carroza and RunTex sponsored “1 ton of fun.” A project similar to ATX100 and designed to get people moving and losing weight. This new project begins August 1st.
I’d like to introduce you to Joe Bacon and Kenny Taylor. You’ll hear their names a lot over the next several months; we’ll call them our head coaches.
The minute you meet Joe you know he wants to change. He is a compassionate, honest man who will tell you what it’s like to be him.
He weighs 379 pounds and hopes to drop to 210 pounds.
Joe doesn’t hide anything. He has struggled with his weight his whole life. He says he’s tried of “buying 2 airplane tickets” and “getting a table not a booth” at a restaurant. That is reality for Joe. He lost 40 pounds in the program 5 years ago but then stopped trying and didn’t change his habits. It’s already different this time and he is making a public commitment to stick with it.
Joe has a jump start on HIS journey, he’s eating through weight watchers, walking 5 times a week and each week he posts a picture of his weigh-in card for all to see.
Joe is writing about his trials and triumphs on his blog, www.alittlelessbacon.com. Yep, that’s really the name and you have to check it out.
Joe and Kenny are hoping to inspire others by publicizing their very personal struggles. They’ve succeeded and regressed so many times, but that is what makes them great coaches. And they are driven to make it work this time.
Kenny is 309 pounds, he’s aiming for 235. He says that by taking on the responsibility of helping others — showing them if he can do it, they can too — then he’ll stay with it.
Let’s look at ATX100 as the 2011-2012 football season. Training camp begins August 1st with registration. The fee to be a part of the team: $100 dollars. That pays for registration, a training shirt and training shoes.
There will be several practices a week but you can just choose one, Monday morning, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons or Saturday morning.
Each practice begins with a pep-talk from your coach and then a workout; it’s a gradual build up to get your body moving.
After your workout, “My Fit Foods” which is co-sponsoring ATX100 with RunTex, will be on hand to give you healthy choices.
And the Super bowl of ATX100? The biggest 10k race in Texas — the Capital 10,000 on March 25, 2012.
We’ll all be rooting you on!
If you want more information about ATX100 or want to register, you can go to www.runtex.com or www.facebook.com/ATX100, Culturemap will follow Joe and Kenny and the RTX100 and we'll keep you updated on everyone's progress.
Editor's Note: The event was originally named RTX100 and changed recently to ATX100, our story was updated to reflect the name change.
