Alamo Drafthouse's first East Austin location has an opening date
For two years, local movie-lovers have waited anxiously for this news, but it was well worth the wait: Alamo Drafthouse's only East Austin location finally has an opening date. The first day of service for the Mueller theater is Tuesday, March 9.
Like the five other Austin locations — and the 25 more across the country — Alamo Drafthouse Mueller will feature six state-of-the-art auditoriums and a well-crafted menu of food and drinks. As promised, there will also be gender-neutral bathrooms. Due to its location next to The Thinkery, the new outpost will showcase more family-friendly activities (without sacrificing the programming we adults know and love).
"I love the new theater and think it might be our best cinema yet," says Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League in a statement. "We have lots of fun surprises in store for the Mueller neighborhood and beyond, in particular, our range of programming and events for families and kids."
The Mueller location will also have a unique hangout space called Barrel O' Fun. During the day it will offer Austinites of all ages a"vintage boardwalk feel" and sweet carnival games. At night, Barrel O' Fun becomes Bar O' Fun, replacing the games with adult beverages.
Bar manager Ryan Hollowell, who comes by way of Lonesome Dove, has curated a lineup of themed soda pops for the kids and unique cocktails for the kids at heart. Similar to its sister bars, The Highball and 400 Rabbits, guests can expect a regular lineup of entertainment, from trivia to live music.
Tickets for movie screenings at Mueller are on sale now. The Drafthouse is offering discounted food and non-alcoholic drinks to moviegoers who don't mind catching a flick during staff-training days, which begin March 3.
Concerned about parking in the Mueller development? Don't be — free validated parking is available in the garage right next to the Drafthouse.
