Brave New Bars
The 8 best new bars in Austin for cocktails, craft beer, and good company
It's possible that the only thing expanding fast enough to fit Austin's population boom is our bar scene. There are so many new, lively spots to toss back a pint or linger over a more complex libation. We've rounded up a few of our favorites for you, so call a ride share service — while you still can — and peep these new places.
Milonga Room
This speakeasy project from Buenos Aires Cafe is the sexiest space we've seen in a long time. Befitting its underground nature, don't show up sans reservation or password. Milonga Room is currently open Thursday through Saturday from 6 pm to midnight. Bring your tango shoes.
Jack & Ginger's
A new Irish bar for our fair freckled friends. North Austinites can officially skip that long drive downtown with this beauty in The Domain. Revel in cocktails on tap, an extensive beer selection, and Footy Brunch (that's soccer, folks!) on Saturday and Sunday.
Backbeat
Backbeat, the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out. This place is an oasis on South Lamar. (See what we did there?) From the smarty pants behind drink.well. comes Backbeat. Sip super crafted concoctions on its rooftop patio and enjoy a small but mighty selection of appetizers and desserts. Try the Peachy Blinders.
Parlor & Yard
RIP Arro, hello Parlor & Yard! It retains the fancy feel inside with a stocked bar and a curated menu, but its yard games will appeal to your competitive nature. Down an Old Fashioned while playing a fierce game of foosball.
Small Victory
It's no small feat that they've turned Mike's Burgers (remember that place?) into this pretty and intimate venue. Shotgun style with dark wood, plush seating, and Tiffany lamps, the wine and food selection is currently small, so spirits are your best bet. Not great for big groups but available for private rental.
Nightcap
Everyone with a sweet tooth should come here. Delightful cocktails, decadent desserts, small plates for those of the savory persuasion, and a brunch on Sunday. Kick your evening off or have a late night date. The Coffee + Donut is a crowd fave.
Rusty Cannon Pub
Located on Stassney Lane for you southies, the Rusty Cannon is a self-described Texas pub. Beers, burgers, and a stuffed and fried avocado called "the cannon ball" are sure to make you feel light on your feet. This is a great place to grab a brew and exchange some high fives with your buddies.
The Growler Bar
This is a growler fill station with over 50 beer, wine, kombucha, and cold-brew coffee taps. It sells all of that to-go, or you can stay and order in-house. The only catch? It's in Pflugerville, so make sure you're not imbibing and driving. Check the website for an updated list of what's pouring.
