End of Omelettry
Iconic Omelettry building on Burnet Road will be bulldozed next week
A chapter is coming to a close for longtime fans of The Omelettry. The original home of The Omelettry, 4811 Burnet Rd., will be demolished next week.
The Austin Business Journal reports that property owner Bryan Cumby is tearing down the iconic building to make way for a new development.
"We are demolishing the structure next week," Cumby told ABJ. "We are still planning the re-use so we can’t answer the question of the new product yet but we will not require a zoning change."
The Omelettry was a fixture on Burnet Road for 37 years. Monday, May 4 was its final day at the original location. But the loss of the landmark building isn't all bad news. The Omelettry will open a new location at 4631 Airport Blvd.
"We were urban pioneers when we first opened The Omelettry in 1978," said founder and co-owner Kenny Carpenter about the move last year. "Burnet Road was full of shuttered businesses and our building had seen a number of failed restaurants before we got there. So we'll be urban pioneers again on Airport. We see great potential there — that area is so underserved."
According to its website, The Omelettry's new incarnation is slated to open this month.
