In 1985, Philadelphia’s municipal government, police and fire department conspired to end an armed standoff with the radical vegan, back-to-nature, mostly African American organization called MOVE. Several incendiary bombs were dropped from a police helicopter, an entire city block burned to the ground, and eleven activists died in the conflagration.
