Award-winning Hidden Room Theatre are connecting live across an ocean from Austin all the way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to UK partners and Fringe First winners Look Left Look Right to make long distance theatre love in the world premiere of You Wouldn’t Know Her, She Lives in Edinburgh.
This fully immersive, interactive Skype theatre experience casts audience (both online and in person) as the friends and family of the play’s long-distance lovers Ryan and Elizabeth. Audiences are then invited to meet and play together live from the UK and the US in this delightful romantic comedy that tests the common definition of what makes a relationship “real.”
This production builds relationships both theatrically and literally between actors and audiences live across the world. Three audiences, one in Austin, one at the edinburgh Fringe, and one online audience from anywhere can participate in this event through Twitter with the hashtag #TexasEdinburgh. Beyond getting international attention with the Independent, WhatsonStage, and the BBC, the workshop version Texas/London won Best Theatrical Event at the Austin Critics Table for 2010-2011.
The project also has received the attention of the US State Department who are currently looking to work with us on the structure to help foster international collaboration, understanding, and peaceful relations.
