Get your hands dirty and eat clean at the 3rd Annual Austin Community GardeningTour and Picnic
Before you head to Eyore’s birthday, do something wholesome for yourself and check out some of Austin’s community gardens.
Saturday, April 28, a group of organizations are hosting an open-house tour showcasing multiple gardens that are growing more than just food in the Austin area. These gardens offer a place for neighbors and friends to gather outdoors and cultivate their community while producing local food.
The event is free and family-friendly; join the tour on your bike, in your car or on foot. Along the way, you will find instructional talks, activities for the kiddos and an opportunity to get some dirt on your hands by helping out at any of the work sites.
Kenny Dorham’s Backyard, home to a large community garden, will host a potluck dinner the that evening to celebrate the community gardening movement.
Schedule:
6 p.m.: Picnic (Bring a blanket, a local food dish and utensils!)
7 p.m.: Presentation by the City of Austin and the Coalition of Austin Community Gardens on the development of Austin’s community gardening initiative, exciting and innovative projects on the horizon, and how to get involved.
8 p.m.: Dancing and live music by The Better Halves
