Juice Up
The 8 best Austin juice bars keep it fresh and healthy
It’s no secret that we do a lot of healthy things well in Austin. From our veggie restaurant scene to our urban green spaces and abundance of free yoga, there’s seemingly no shortage of health-conscious good times in this town. And, when it comes to juice bars? Well, we pretty much have that on lockdown.
Here are the best eight juice bars in Austin. Juice up.
Blenders and Bowls
The gals behind Blenders and Bowls took their passion for acai (a Brazilian berry) and turned it into a cold-pressed reality. They began serving up acai bowls from the Blenders and Bowls food truck in 2010, and they now operate out of a space with Wanderlust Yoga downtown. Most of the juices and smoothies contain acai, which, as per their website, has the “highest concentration of antioxidants than any other known fruit in the world.”
What to get: If you’re in the mood for something equally filling and delish, try The Legend. It’s banana-peanut butter-chocolate almond milk goodness.
Daily Juice
Daily Juice is an oldie but a goodie. Since 2003, they’ve been doling out fresh-pressed juices to Austinites near and far; they currently have eight locations scattered around town. Whatever you’re searching for in a juice, rest assured that Daily Juice has it. From the excellent acai bowls and smoothies to made-to-order juices, there’s a little something for everyone here.
What to get: We’re partial to the Bird of Paradise, a signature drink that combines spinach, carrot, celery, cucumber, orange, pineapple, ginger, and lemon.
JuiceLand
With its 16 locations that span from South Austin all the way up north to Parmer, JuiceLand is Austin’s unofficial fresh juice mecca. Apart from its locations here, and in Houston and Dallas, JuiceLand has one other locale: Brooklyn. If that doesn’t give a place some serious juice cred, then nothing will.
What to get: From customized juice cleanse programs to “Top Shelf” smoothies, JuiceLand really has it all. You can’t go wrong with anything here, but we wholeheartedly recommended the Ninja Bachelor Party and the Soul Boulder.
Juice Society
Juice Society opened its first brick-and-mortar this past year, in the South Lamar Union Development. With its sleek, minimalist decor and ultra-modern vibes, it’s also just a great place to hang out and sip your greens. And, perhaps best of all, check out Juice Society’s blog, where they feature inventive ideas on crafting juice cocktails.
What to get: If you can handle it, the General is jam-packed with more nutrients than most of us consume in an entire day. Or get the eight-part juice flight so you can sample a little bit of everything.
O’JOY Organic Juice & Organic Yogurt
O’JOY, located on Burnet Road, is the best of two worlds. For each item purchased, they’ll donate a meal to a child in need through their partner charities No Kid Hungry and Rice Bowl.
What to get: Whichever delicious juice concoction you settle on, be sure to accompany it with one of the signature “Joy Bowls”.
Mañana Coffee & Juice
Located inside the South Congress Hotel, Mañana boasts a rotating menu of cold-pressed juices that feature fresh, in-season organic local produce. No time for cutesy monikers here — drinks come with names like Beet #1, Carrot #1, and Citrus #1.
What to get: Try the Green #1, an eight-ingredient bonanza of flavor and nutrients.
People’s Pharmacy
This holistic, wellness-centered pharmacy on North Lamar Boulevard is an Austin institution, and a true beacon for health nuts everywhere. In addition to the actual pharmacy, People’s Rx has a deli with delectable food offerings and some of the freshest juices in town.
What to get: Feel a midwinter cold coming on? Boost your immune system with the Super Immunity: a smoothie with local raw honey, Vitamin C, probiotics, and organic fruits and veggies.
Soup Peddler
Ah, no Austin juice bar list is complete without mentioning the Soup Peddler. Apart from serving up yummy soups, this famed Austin eatery has a juice and smoothie menu that’ll have you salivating. All the Soup Peddler’s juices combine just a few simple ingredients to create some of the tastiest concoctions in town.
What to get: There’s nothing like kick-starting your morning with a Shot to the Heart, a shot that incorporates all the best juice ingredients: beet, kale, garlic, jalapeno, lemon, ginger, cayenne, and oreganol. Yum!
