Holiday Travel Tips
Austin airport reveals busiest holiday travel times and more tips
It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it's also a hectic time for travelers, especially those flying out of Texas. To make your holiday less of a headache, the City of Austin and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport have some helpful travel tips and tidbits. Before you head to ABIA, read on.
Busiest travel times
The busiest travel days during the winter holidays are expected to be December 20-23, December 27-30, and January 2-4. The busiest travel times? 5-8 am, 11 am-1 pm, and 3:30-5:30 pm. If you're traveling during those windows, ABIA suggests arriving at least two hours early. Arrive 90 minutes early during all other times.
Curious how long the security line is? You can get real-time updates on TSA checkpoint lines via ABIA's recently launched tool. But, notes ABIA, checkpoint times fluctuate greatly, so plan on arriving early.
Parking
This trip, leave the parking to the airport. Valet parking is available on the third level of Garage 1. Premium Valet is $27 per day and cars are parked inside the garage. Family Friendly Valet is available for $18 per day and includes covered parking on the upper level of the garage.
The new Park and Zoom boasts approximately 1,200 covered spots just across the street from the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.
In the airport
If you have time to spare after getting through security (good for you!), Austin's beloved airport will have entertainment on hand. Live music is scheduled through December 22 and picks up again December 27-30. Bonus: Free Wi-Fi is now available for up to four hours.
