Last year, hundreds of SXSW music fans reveled in the chance to stroll the main drag of Luck, Texas — Willie Nelson’s tiny western town in the Texas Hill Country — while listening to more than a dozen rootsy singers and bands.
Organizers of Heartbreaker Banquet, an unofficial SXSW event, announced Tuesday that the event will return to Luck, Texas on March 14, 2013 with close to 20 performers. The impressive musical lineup offers a mix of country, bluegrass, blues, soul, rock and Americana performed by some established artists and a number of hot up-and-comers.
The 2013 Heartbreaker Banquet lineup includes:
Jim James (of My Morning Jacket)
Shovels & Rope
Hurray For The Riff Raff
Spirit Family Reunion
Riley Downing and the Tumbleweeds
Artists will play on two stages, with headliner on the main Medicine Show stage being My Morning Jacket front man Jim James. Music fans will also have the chance to experience very intimate acoustic sets performed in the town’s 50-seat chapel. Luck, Texas will be lined with food trailers, pop-up shops, a photo gallery and a tattoo parlor.
Organizers Electric Lady Studios and Robot Fondue say the idea behind Heartbreaker Banquet is to offer a reprieve from the regular hustle and bustle of SXSW, while showcasing "authentic musicianship."
During their time in Luck, the crowd will hear its share of banjos, harmonicas, slide guitar and good, honest lyrics. If you’d like a chance to escape to the old west during SXSW, follow @HBbanquet on Twitter, like it on Facebook and keep an eye on the event website for ticket giveaways.
The event is being held from noon to 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. There will be a shuttle bus service available to ticket holders, leaving from several Austin hotspots.
