Here are the shows you just can't miss during Austin Free Week 2016

The party doesn't stop on New Year's Eve. Friday, January 1, marks the beginning of Austin Free Week, a 10-day celebration of all things local featuring hundreds of performances. The goal of Free Week is to get you out of your post-holiday slump and out on the town to explore the live music scene.

Here are our picks for can't-miss local shows during Austin Free Week 2016:

Eric Tessmer, Otis the Destroyer, Not in the Face, and more
This loaded show — rounded out by Sideshow Tragedyfeatures some of the hardest rockers in town in one small, intimate venue: Spider House Ballroom. You can expect hands in the air, tons of sweat, and perhaps an accidental elbow in the face at what is sure to be an awesome concert.

American Sharks, Carl Sagans Skate Shoes, and Vampyre
Making plans for Thursday is going to be hard — this is just one of the three must-see shows that night. For the old-school punks out there, we suggest this high-energy show at the Mohawk.

Super Soul Party V with The Nightowls and more
Do you feel like getting your groove on? Then you absolutely need to make an appearance at the fifth annual Super Soul Party from Red River Noise. The Nightowls and The Bellfuries are teaming up with DJ Chorizo Funk for one booty-shakin' show at The Belmont.

Stoner Jam 10 with Sweat Lodge, Bridge Farmer, and more
This is by far the most psychedelic lineup during Austin Free Week. Swing by Swan Dive and get your face melted by Duel, Tia Carrera, Crypt Trip, and more with trippy light shows courtesy of 512 Youth.

Quiet Company, Taylor and the Wild Now, and more
Another two-stage affair, this stacked bill at Empire Control Room & Garage includes performances by Quiet Company, Calliope Musicals, Taylor and the Wild Now, Young Tongue, The Deer, Major Major Major, Darkbird, Strange Fiction, Edison Chair, the dirty heat, and Scott Collins.

Matthew Logan Vasquez, Sweet Spirit, and more
Nine Mile Records is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a dual-stage lineup featuring Matthew Logan Vasquez (frontman for Delta Spirit), Sweet Spirit, Sounds del Mar, A. Sinclair, Tinnarose, Löwin, Abram Shook, Ben Ballinger, and Modrag at the Mohawk.

Free for Y'all with Shinyribs, The Midnight Stroll, and more
Fun is guaranteed at Utopia Fest's aptly-named Free for Y'all show. Enjoy pickings from food and craft vendors in addition to live performances by Shinyribs, The Midnight Stroll, Calliope Musicals, Obsolete Machines, Chipper Jones, Mobley, The Deer, Holiday Mountain, Lev, and the fine students of the School of Rock at Fair Market. Golden Dawn Arkestra, Ringo Deathstarr, and more
If you weren't already sold on going to this show by those two acts, then know that Christian Blank & The Revelators and Moving Panoramas are also on this lineup at the Mohawk. Headliners Golden Dawn Arkestra always put on a mesmerizing performance.

Marmalakes, Riders Against the Storm, Ruby Jane, and more
An eclectic range of musicians and artist will grace the stage at Empire Control Room & Garage during 101X's Homegrown Live showcase. Marmalakes, Riders Against the Storm, and Ruby Jane will be joined by The Sour Notes, Capyac, Velo, Hello Wheels, Good Field, and Reservations.
