West Austin midcentury modern home has ties to Long Center — and $3.25 million price
A chic home in the tony Highland Park West neighborhood has hit the market — and it comes with an interesting piece of Austin history. The midcentury marvel on Ridge Oak Drive is not only a design lover's dream, but it includes a striking addition by Stan Haas, one of the architects behind the Long Center.
For more than a decade, the Long Center has been an Austin landmark, a testament to the city's love of the performing arts — and modern architecture. The current incarnation of the building opened in 2008 following an extensive renovation at the hands of architect Haas, then of Nelsen Partners, an Austin-based firm.
Built in 1964, the four-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath home is now available for $3.25 million. The property sits on a 0.46-acre lot at 5204 Ridge Oak Dr. and includes a second story addition by Haas.
Comprised, in part, of glass and steel, the addition appears to be "floating" above the beautiful pool and patio area.
"This iconic home seamlessly blends classic midcentury modern architecture with updated contemporary design," Drew Marye, broker and principal at The Marye Group, tells CultureMap. "The floating addition by architect Stan Haas provides a luxurious office suite with living and conference areas. It also incorporates exterior tile recycled from the Long Center renovation project."
In addition to the celebrity architect's, ahem, addition, the Ridge Oak property also features some pretty prime amenities.
Multiple living spaces are available on both the first and second floors; a gourmet kitchen includes top-of-the-line features, such as marble counters, 48-inch Blue Star range, subzero refrigerator, Miele coffee station, and steam oven; and the aforementioned pool, accompanied by an outdoor patio space and lush surrounds, complete with a fenced backyard.
Marye is representing the seller, who have asked to remain private.
Though Haas is arguably one of the architects behind modern-day Austin, he now lives in Virginia, where he is a professor at Virginia Tech.
