Nail biter: Contigo inches past Kome Sushi to take on Haddington's in CultureMapTastemaker Awards New Restaurant Challenge
The battle for the CultureMap Tastemaker Awards New Restaurant Challenge has come down the finals.
Admirers of Contigo's outdoor patio and ranch-style cuisine logged on daily to vote in CultureMap's Best Restaurant Challenge bracket, as did fans of Kome Sushi's homestyle Japanese meals and casual, comfortable atmosphere. The restaurants were neck and neck throughout the week, but in the end Contigo walked away with a spot in the finals — inching past Kome Sushi by less than 10 votes.
Contigo's supporters have one more hurdle to clear before walking away with the win. They now have to compete with the hundreds of fans who helped Haddington's American Tavern dash Franklin Barbecue's hopes of being honored as CultureMap's Best New Restaurant (although, I suspect this won't impact the opinions of those who wait each day for the mere chance to grub on Franklin's Barbecue at lunch).
Haddington's and Contigo both offer a casual and fun atmosphere but their menus are very distinct. Haddington's prides itself on traditional American cuisine, while Contigo's offerings are straight off the ranch. Both serve carefully crafted cocktails, wine and beer making this selection a tough one for those who have had the pleasure of frequenting both restaurants.
Voting is officially underway and will end at midnight on Sunday. The winners will be announced Thursday, April 12 at the 2012 CultureMap Tastemaker Awards at the Driskill Hotel.
