Hotel Boom
New 65-room boutique hotel slated for Austin's East Cesar Chavez neighborhood
Austin's hotel boom shows no signs of slowing down, as plans for a boutique hotel situated on East Cesar Chavez have been revealed. A three-story, 65-room hotel could break ground in October, reports theAustin American-Statesman.
Dubbed the East Side Hotel, the project is the brainchild of local husband-and-wife team Brian and Bree Carrico of Alexa Management, LLC. According to the Alexa Management website, the company was "formed to build an East Austin hotel that caters to seekers of the new, the local, and the authentic when they travel. As owners, operators, and guests we’ve always gotten the most out of the unexpected connections you make while traveling."
The $19 million project, however, "is drawing criticism from some in the neighborhood, and a petition is circulating with nearly 400 signatures in opposition," says the Statesman. To move forward with the project, a conditional use permit from the City of Austin Planning Commission is required. The commission is scheduled to hear the request on June 9.
In addition to the 65 guest rooms, plans for the property include a restaurant, bar and underground parking. Early renderings from Baldridge Architects depict a sleek aesthetic, heavy on mid-century modern design elements.
If approved, the hotel, located at 1207 E. Cesar Chavez, plans to open in late 2016. Expect room rates in the mid-$200s.
