Fall Fashion Preview
Get ready for a colorful fall: Thakoon showcases truly bold looks
Fall fashion used to be the time for shades of falling leaves — rust, yellow, brown and orange colors that have traditionally predominated in clothing as the season automatically turns cooler. But designer Thakoon Panichgul is among a growing number of fashion designers who see no need to revert to such shades as the temperatures fall.
With a nod to season less dressing, Panichgul has created a fall collection of bold prints in colors usually more associated with spring.
With a nod to seasonless dressing, the 39-year-old Thai-American designer, who is a favorite of first lady Michelle Obama, has created a fall collection of bold prints in colors usually more associated with spring — pastel pink, bold fuschia and deep blue — for his namesake Thakoon line.
The collection should appeal to the Texas shopper, who loves bright colors and bold prints — and lives in a climate that never gets that cold, so she's more receptive to a colorful wardrobe all year long.
Jackets in embroidered blooms, V-neck sweaters in eye-popping shades of fuschia, a below-the-knee cobalt blue dress with "slashes" of orange flowers and layered puffer coats that combine floral prints in various shades highlight the eye-catching styles in the Thakoon fall collection.
For the runway show, many looks came with knit pullover shrugs or "ponchitas" that restricted the model's arm movement and seemed clearly intended more for fashion editors than everyday women — or even a first lady.
