Austin is turning pink with excitement for Barbie, the Greta Gerwig film that has people everywhere obsessed with a movie they haven't seen yet. Is it the amazing PR, the escapism, or just the immaculate overstatement of gender norms to the extent that they're rendered basically useless? Whatever the reason, Greta Gerwig's Barbie is a cause for celebration, and people really seem to want that right now.
On July 21, pink-clad audiences will descend on movie theaters across the country. But it's looking like things will be especially exciting around here: According to Google Trends, Texas was the third-most interested state in the search query, "Barbie."
Not that fans need any help in this department, but these 11 parties, spectacles, and offers will help Austin get in the mood for this exciting film, and a more fantastic life in plastic going forward.
A love note and a hotel soiree by Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. is kicking things off with two public official partner activations. First, the "I Love You So Much" mural at Jo's Coffee now reads as a personalized love note from Barbie to Ken, until July 17. Next, Fairmont Austin is lighting its "crown" (the top row of the building) pink, starting Friday. It's also hosting a themed event with the soundtrack playing, a Barbie box photo op, and film-inspired cocktails.
