- There may be debate about what was served for the very first Thanksgiving dinner in 1621, but we can probably all agree on one thing: the food was locally sourced. And that's what Austin's Sustainable Food Center [https: /www.sustainablefoodcenter.org/] is all about: strengthening our local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food in order to cultivate a healthy community. This week, we're joyfully celebrating that eating locally sourced food is still possible. What better way to give thanks for our American landscape and all that we have than with dishes made from food grown with care in our very own community? What better way to say thank you to farmers who work through drought and flood to put beautiful, health-giving food on our tables every week of the year than to shop for your dinner at the markets? SFC Farmers' Markets [https://www.sfcfarmersmarket.org/] have just about everything you need for a most delicious night of giving thanks — they've even made a shopping list for you! Visit the SFC Farmers' Market Thanksgiving Shopping Look Book through this photo slideshow or on Pinterest [https://www.pinterest.com/sfclocal/sfc-farmers-market-thanksgiving-look-book/]. SFC Farmers' Markets accept SNAP and WIC-EBT benefits [https://www.sfcfarmersmarket.org/nutrition-assistance] and give double dollars for fresh fruits and vegetables. Many vendors are offering special-order Thanksgiving items that need to be ordered ahead of time; check our their menus: * Dai Due [https://daidueaustin.net/] * Happy Vegan [https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152011802511252&set=a.82174131251.77460.49759071251&type=1] * Cake & Spoon [https://cakeandspoon.com/2013-holiday-pie-menu/]Photo by Thomas Winslow
