Chula League was formed in 2005 to support the arts, art education, and artful outdoor spaces in East Austin. It works to ensure that the arts and public outdoor spaces play a valued role in the educational, economic, and cultural wellbeing of East Austin neighborhoods. through a variety of projects and events, including the arts-mentoring program Little Artist BIG ARTIST.
Launched in 2007, Little Artist BIG ARTIST is a unique mentoring experience that pairs professional artists with fifth and sixth graders from East Austin elementary schools. BIG ARTISTs provide their time and professional experience as working artists to guide their Little Artists to envision, plan, and create at least two pieces of artwork during their 10-week, one-on-one collaboration. If you are interested in a BIG ARTIST mentoring position, head here.
Chula League's flagship event, the annual Cherrywood Art Fair, has been a holiday shopping destination for over 16 years. It showcases the work of local artists and brings local music acts, original performers, and unique Austin eats together with fun family activities.
The Chula League membership program helps fund Little Artist BIG ARTIST and the professional development workshops for artists. By signing up for an annual membership for $25 per month or more, supporters gain access to a number of special benefits including a membership email newsletter with exclusive updates and a personal thank you from Chula League's executive director.
