Founded in 1989, the Championship is the biggest and longest-running vegetarian chili cook-off in the nation. Every year, nearly 1,000 people come to the Lone Star Veggie Chili Championship to taste up to 30 delicious, healthy, meatless chilis, cooked on-site by teams from all over Texas, as they compete for best chili in two divisions. And this year's event is reaching out to include competitors from outside of Texas.
All the chilis are completely vegan, with no animal products used in their preparation whatsoever. There will also be live music from original Americana band, The Texas KGB, cooking demos, vegan food and beer, product vendors, educational exhibitors, door prizes, pet adoptions from Thundering Paws, and a children's activity area.
