43rd Annual Lighting of Christmas Tree at LBJ State Park

eventdetail
Bryan Frazier

The lighting of the Christmas tree at LBJ State Park and Historic Site has become a time-honored tradition, an event started by President and Mrs. Johnson in 1970. Park visitors can enjoy performances of holiday music, a live nativity scene, a visit from Santa Clause and the hallmark lighting of the Christmas tree near the park headquarters complex. Following the tree lighting, park staff in period costume will offer guided tours of adjacent Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm, which will be decorated for the season, circa 1900. There will be German cookies and cakes, glowing lanterns along the short trail and interpretive talks as folks visit the rooms of the restored farm house, barn and grounds of this working farm that preserves pioneer life at the turn of the 19th Century. This year’s event is also a highlight of a centennial celebration, honoring what would have been Lady Bird Johnson’s 100th birthday.
