Richard Linklater introduces Martin Scorsese’s follow-up to Raging Bull. The King of Comedy is a cringe-inducing character study of fame-obsessed, would-be comedian Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) who'll go to any desperate length to make real his delusions. De Niro has never been better and Jerry Lewis, playing an amalgam of himself and Johnny Carson, is his idol and victim.
