14-year-old Laura Dekker set out from Holland in her renovated 40-foot sailboat, the Guppy, determined to be the youngest person to sail around the globe alone. Despite the Dutch school system’s 10-month attempt to stop her, Laura sailed out of her childhood in 2010 with her father’s blessings. With a time limit of two years, the young girl was determined to stop off in various ports, explore the countryside a bit, and get to know people. She also took along a Sony Handycam and mounted GoPro cameras, provided by filmmaker Jillian Schlesinger, to document various moments in the journey. The bulk of her footage provided the images and narration for this documentary.
