Tobe Hooper's Eggshells is an interesting time-capsule of Austin in 1968, not only because of its many recognizable locations, but in the very use of the camera, in the cutting and in Hooper's decision to make an art film along European lines in Texas, of all places. Eggshells presents a cross-section of the spiritual and emotional fabric of its time, and the style in which it is presented would be at home alongside the works of Godard and Antonioni, except a sense of cool that is all Austin.
