The Alamo Drafthouse is presenting 100 films in 2014 that its resident programmers personally find essential, starting off with perhaps the pinnacle of Charlie Chaplin's illustrious career. Chaplin not only created a film filled to the brim with laughs that stand the test of time, he also balanced it out with some of the greatest emotion on screen at a time when cinema was in the midst of the sound revolution.
