The 2022 Austin Film Festival will feature over 33 world, North American, U.S., and Texas premieres.

The opening night film will beThe Whale, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Brendan Fraser. Aronofsky will be receiving the 2022 Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award, and he and writer Samuel D. Hunter will attend the screening and participate in additional programming for AFF’s Writers Conference.

Sam & Kate, writer/Director Darren Le Gallo’s directorial debut, will make its world premiere at the festival. Le Gallo and the film’s stars, Dustin Hoffman, Sissy Spacek, Jake Hoffman, and Schuyler Fisk, will be on hand for the screening.

Other highlights include James Gray's Armageddon Time, starring Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, and Anthony Hopkins; Sarah Polley’s Women Talking; and Nikyatu Jusu’s Nanny.
