Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble's season begins with an original ballet honoring the timeless classic, The Nutcracker, with a new twist.
Beginning in the here and now, Clara attends a holiday party where she meets new characters that will dance their way into your hearts. After meeting a young man, William, at the party, she falls asleep dreaming of the evening. In the dream she is transported to the Land of the Sweets, but the characters she encounters are very familiar. She dances with her old friends and the special new friend who is her Prince in the dream until she awakens back in the present.
As in her dream, the audience will enjoy the familiar melded with the contemporary. The beautiful music of Tchaikovsky provides the perfect backdrop for classical ballet reminiscent of the traditional ballet performed since 1892. The percussive rhythm and haunting melodies of the contemporary music inspire innovative, modern movement and contemporary balletic themes.
