Austin-Oita Sister City Committee presents Virtual Japanese Festival

Hosted by the Austin-Oita Sister City Committee, the virtual event will feature a traditional tea ceremony using tea bowls created by an Austin ceramicist and a master ceramicist from Oita, Japan; a demonstration of shabu-shabu, meat and vegetables cooked in broth and served with dipping sauces; and committee mascot Sumo-San taking on Dark Circle Sumo, and singing and painting with Yellow of Japanese action comic punk bank Peelander-Z. Sumo-San also will visit Austin businesses: Asahi Imports, Komé Sushi Kitchen, Sa-Tén Coffee & Eats, and Texas Saké.

AOSCC’s mission is to promote and heighten public interest in and appreciation of the culture, people, languages, businesses, and products between the City of Austin and Oita, Japan. Oita, one of Austin’s 14 Sister Cities, has been a Sister City to Austin since 1990.
