Austin Playhouse will present three new works as part of the 2025 Festival of New Texas Plays, which celebrates works-in-progress from Texas-based playwrights.

2025 Festival of New Texas Plays

  • The Elsewhere by C. Denby Swanson (June 21 at 5 pm) - Inspired by the playwright’s relationship with her father and son and the often excruciatingly heartbreaking pull of other people’s needs.
  • The Bone Wars by Sarah Saltwick (June 21 at 8 pm) - The Bone Wars follows the rivalry of two paleontologists - O.C. Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope during the great US Bone Rush of the late 1800s. Their competition led to incredible discoveries including the finding and naming of 136 new species of dinosaurs, including Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Coelophysis. The rivalry also led to their professional and personal ruin.
  • Men in Shorts by Raul Garza (June 22 at 4 pm) - Inspired by the life of author David Foster Wallace, Men in Shorts follows Dave - a middle-aged, literary has-been - on his quest for self-discovery and redemption.
