American music is reflective of its history as a cultural melting pot, encompassing a broad range of influences from Latin to African to Celtic. This diverse array of peoples and cultures sought a better life and embodied what has commonly been expressed as "The American Dream."

For this fourth and final concert of the 2017-2018 season, Beerthoven will feature the world premiere of its first-ever commissioned work Dream Songs by composer Elizabeth Comninellis. This new song cycle for soprano, cello, and piano will be performed by experts in American art music: vocalist Icy Simpson-Monroe, pianist Artina McCain, and cellist Liz Lee. Other works on this all-American program include Dream Portraits by Margaret Bonds, selections from 24 Negro Melodies by Samuel Coleridge Taylor, pieces for cello and piano by Amy Beach, and much more. Martin McCain will join them on bass trombone for this exploration of music from America.

Beerthoven events include free beer, wine, and other refreshments, and are family-friendly.
