Over the past six years, the Syrian conflict has left 7.6 million people displaced within the country and over 12 million in need of healthcare and assistance. With 49% of all primary healthcare facilities damaged beyond function, basic access to reproductive health services have plummeted nationwide. Especially within the city of Aleppo, the healthcare system is in utter disrepair. Due to the recent bombings, there remains but one hospital left in the city capable of delivering essential medical services needed by its people.

The Suffering Grasses speaks to many of the facts and figures mentioned above while further uncovering the intrical roots of the conflict. At this screening event viewers will not only have an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of Syria’s recent history but also engage in an open dialogue facilitated by a panel of Syrian experts. This will prove an excellent opportunity for Austin’s community members to obtain informed answers to their most pressing questions on the issue.
