Desert Door Texas Sotol will present the debut of the latest limited edition Explorer Series release, a Jamaican Rum Cask Texas sotol aptly named Third Coast from which it was inspired. The barrel chosen originated in Lynchburg, Tennessee, where it was used to age whiskey. It then made its way south to Jamaica, where it was filled with rum. Finally, the barrel traveled here to the Third Coast state, where the brand’s oak-aged Texas sotol was integrated. A perfect bottle for summer, Third Coast boasts the sweetness of rum, but with a caramel and toffee taste from the whiskey and sotol. This is the third of eight barrels to be produced this year as part of the brand’s Explorer Series.
Inspired by the barrel’s journey and Tiki cocktail culture, the Desert Door tasting room has crafted three cocktails featuring the Third Coast variation of the spirit. Calico Canyon made with Third Coast Texas Sotol, Pineapple, Orange, Cream of Coconut, Nutmeg; Sky Island featuring Third Coast Texas Sotol, Hibiscus & Spice-Infused Texas Sotol, Lime, Demerara; and Stumbling Cowboy with Third Coast Texas Sotol, Lime, Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Grenadine, Velvet Falernum, & Bitters. All three cocktails will only be available for this celebratory weekend.
