"Residual Utterances" is a presentation of new sculptural work from local sculptor Colin McIntyre, in conjunction with a soundscape inside his celebrated pipe organ sound chamber, The Resonant Lung. The sculptural installation inside the gallery exemplifies McIntyre’s signature abstract lifeforms. These pieces marry his mastery of metalworking with his more recent interest in hot tar as a medium. He has spent his artistic career experimenting with imagined species that celebrate the wonders of adaptation in ecology. His work reflects the limitations of the human understanding of natural order. The sculptures inside the gallery are engaged in an audible conversation with the sound chamber in The Resonant Lung. The looped composition gives a voice and expanded context to the sculptures that are otherwise stationary and silent.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through June 16.
