Over 2,000local high school students, teachers, and attendees will gather for the Tony Awards of High School Musical Theatre – better known as the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards. Guests and attendees will sit with bated breath and loud applause as over 500 students take the stage, Austin newsmakers make special appearances, and a packed Dell Hall supports the magic of live theatre. The Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Tyler Mount, Broadway’s most noted social influencer, creator of Playbill’s “The Tyler Mount Vlog.”
A panel of judges attends each of the 38 competing shows, with more than 4,000 students directly involved in the various productions. In addition to awards for top prizes in 15 categories, schools share over $35,000 in college scholarships, school program grants, and training opportunities. At the awards show, performances include fully executed numbers from the eight schools nominated for Best Musical, lead actor and actress medleys showcasing the top nine students in each category, an opening number performed by the Long Center Select Ensemble, and much more.
