On the first Monday of every month, Half Step will host a new guest sous chef from a local Austin restaurant, who will design a menu and work with local farmers to offer Half Step patrons delicious food on the outdoor courtyard. The Guest Sous Series is designed to give sous chefs and other restaurant support staff a time to step into the spotlight, giving them the opportunity to design their own menu and serve the type of food they want to serve. Each guest chef is mentored by Chef Josh Jones, who coaches them in menu development, product sourcing, pricing, and more.
August's Guest Sous is Joel Renkainen of Micklethwait Craft Meats. Originally from Central Texas, Renkainen’s love for BBQ – as well as Finnish and fermented foods – will be reflected in his menu, which will be available starting at 8 pm along with drink specials from the Half Step team.
