In The Lost Books of Jane Austen, UT Professor Janine Barchas champions cheap 19th-century reprints and their unsung role in Austen’s early reception as an author. Barchas will take visitors inside Stories to Tell, to the “Austen in Austin” exhibit to examine whether copies of Austen’s books reveal the prides and prejudices of book collecting. This will be an illustrated walk through some extraordinary first editions, unique family and association copies, as well as some ‘Janeite’ surprises. The event will be followed by a book signing.
