Austin's Hideout Theatre has built its reputation on producing full-length improvised plays in a wide range of styles: Shakespeare, Dickens, Star Trek, Film Noir. The Hideout certainly isn't alone in its approach, and it's time to bring like-minded improv companies together to celebrate and show off the more theatrical side of improv.
Hence, the world's first Improvised Play Festival.
To accomplish this task, the Hideout has assembled a full weekend of improvised one-act plays. The schedule is packed with The Hideout's own repertoire of shows (Violet Underbelly and Holy 1960s Batman, Batman!), exciting new shows from other theaters in Austin (Get Up and False Matters), and special out-of-town guest troupes.
The highlight of the weekend will be Code Duello from Boston, MA, which stars Neil Reynolds & Matt Tucker as Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, recreating the greatest rivalry in American History, uninhibited by historical accuracy.
